Unity of the Bible: From Creation to Exile

Class Description Embark on an engaging and informative journey through the grand narrative of Scripture. This course offers a comprehensive overview of the Old Testament by tracing key related themes from Genesis to the end of the historical narrative, exploring how God's Kingdom story begins. Rather than viewing the Bible as a collection of disjointed stories, you will discover how each section contributes to a cohesive whole, built around the core pattern of the kingdom: God’s people in God’s place under God’s rule.

Through this nine-week semester, you will explore:

Foundations of God’s Kingdom: Study the perfection of Creation, the tragedy of the Fall, the grace-filled Promise to Abraham, and the power of the Exodus.

Life in God’s Kingdom: Dive into the gift of the Law, the rise and fall of Israel's Kingdom, the challenging voice of the Prophets, and the sobering reality of the Exile.

Our study will be guided by the engaging pictorial book, Illustrated Bible Survey: An Introduction by Ed Hindson and Elmer Towns. This resource opens windows of insight into the literature, history, archaeology, and theological depth of the biblical text, making the Scriptures come alive.

This class focuses on the Old Testament, and the New Testament will be covered in a future semester. Real-Life Application This course is designed to connect head knowledge with daily life. The struggles of ancient Israel—navigating rebellion, experiencing grace before law, and understanding what it means to live as a redeemed people—directly mirror our modern faith journeys. Through practical sidebars and interactive teaching, you will learn how to apply these timeless truths, moral principles, and theological insights to your everyday life. You will walk away not only understanding the main arc of the Bible, but also knowing how to live more faithfully under God's rule today.

Meet the Instructor Dr. Sing Oldham brings 45 years of rich ministry experience to this course. Having served in youth and education ministry, as a college professor, a denominational leader, and a pastor of churches in Arkansas and Tennessee, his teaching is grounded in practical pastoral wisdom.
